Truth be told, volume wasn't an issue in the end, as I ended up being louder then their pre pre-mastering. I lost it because I cleaned it up to much.
Low mids were now too articulate, yet still plenty of body. And too clean, meaning, I cut out too much top end grit, yet was brighter.
With, "it's too harsh at 95+ db", was the artist comments, yet he agreed their pre pre-mastering was too dull at 85.
So in the end, it was my fault for not "properly" evaluating the client's request.
