Furman IT-1220 & AR-1220 what order
« on: May 19, 2011, 02:49:37 PM »

I'Ve had these units for a long time & while I'm now installing a newe UPS & looking back there
I wanted to rethink how I'm using these units.

So far I have had no problems having the IT-1220 coming from the wall & the AR-1220 plugged into that & then the UPS pugged into the AR-

but Now that I think about it maybe the voltage should be regulated before it gets balanced.
I know this may be over kill but what do others think about this power setup?

Found this for you Ed, from Furman (see bottom of page one):  http://www.furmansound.com/pdf/catalog/flyer_volt_regulation.pdf

"The ideal set-up would utilize both a voltage regulator and a balanced power unit; with the voltage regulator plugged into the wall and the balanced power unit plugged into the voltage regulator."

When you install these decides do you without question hear any difference?

I can understand UPS but power conditioners, it's money for old rope isn't it?

Are there real motives I am missing?

Thanks Kevin for the link.
I've had these units since way back when I was in a room that had bad power & they helped. Since being in my current room & while using these units I've have a low noise floor & no problems. So i'm not going to remove the units to find out what could happen. They may make no difference at all......

I hear a difference with consumer gear (which I have to deal with in my archival role) that (a) has a motor of some sort and (b) doesn't have a rugged power supply section.  Meaning: no audible difference in the performance of the Studer 807, but tons of better performance in any Technics turntable (recall that 33.3, 45, and 78.26 are all based on 60Hz) and most cassette machines.

So fair to say fairly "specific" uses then.
