Help/advice needed; going digital
« on: June 15, 2006, 02:37:27 PM »

No, I am not giving up my 8-track analog deck. Nor am I totally digi-less at this time (I mix to DAT. And yes, I understand this makes you shudder. But hey, it's what I've got.).

I need to get mixes into a different format; CD would be preferable. I am not opposed to mixing to CD instead of DAT (see above).

So, rather than weeding though all the catalogs and chatting up the dorks at Banjo Center, I ask you:

What works? What's good? What's flexible? And what isn't gonna kill me cost-wise?

I thank you in advance.

The Alesis Masterlink can be had on eBay for about $500, or new for about $800.

Useful for mixdown and archiving.  Sounds pretty good.  Even has built-in DSP which can be quite useful for burning mix references.

I am so technically challenged that I don't know what this means.

I have seen Masterlinks used before and they are on my list. Thanks
