I saw them at Fort Mason here in SF, they were great but Guy wasn't quite as gymnastic as what you see in Instrument.

It was really really loud-- I remember my pants vibrating to Joe Lally feedback.

Anyway, it was about 12 years ago and I mainly just have a positive overall impression of the show more than anything.

yup, about 5 years ago.

problem is i'd seen 'instrument' about 20 times before that so i sorta knew what to expect. additionally, the songs that they played that were also on the video had all of the same 'improvised bits' as the show i saw (and some of the live video footage was from 10 years earlier!). that threw a lot of their 'every show is different' reputation out of the window for me.

it was still good. 'the argument' hadn't come out yet so it was a nice treat seeing the dual drummer songs.

I saw them in the early 90's(1992-93?)...around the Red Medicine album.
They were really good.
Tight.
Sounded similar to the albums.
I don't remember any Guy gymnastics but he was kind of spastic and they definitely brought the energy and passion.

overall, they are a band that is so tight and spot on that it makes you not want to be in a band.

you have to respect a band that can play any song in their catalogue on any given night, with that level of tightness.

They did yell at some guy in the crowd though-- he'd climbed up some scaffolding for reasons unkown.

Yes, if I hear one more genius yell Free Bird, I'm going to go postal.

And then there's always...

Saw them about 1989 or so in North Hampton, Ma. I thought they were great. Probably one of the last real punk rock shows I went to.

I would if it was Marillion playing their song Fugazi, with Fish back on vocals.

Cool

That's it exactly.  I've seen them 3 or 4 times, including being the opening band once.  They make me feel like an amateur.
