for drums ........thank's for the info,

I have the MPXIII mic pre and use it for overheads quite a bit it's very clean I also use it for AC GTR
I like it , great buy for the $

The Sytek's are very fast, clean and quiet. They sould work well in any application unless you desire noticable colouration.

Technically the two drawbacks I percieve with the Sytek are the gain pots where only have a 1 to 9 legend (when we really want 1 to 11) and the absense of a input pad (The unit has a minimum of 12dB gain). This could be a problem with certain mics when close micing a kit say.

I have a JFet on 3 & 4 version, and I need inline pads for all channels when doing drums...I bought this unit about 4 years ago directly from Mike...he thought that the gain issue had been addressed and that I wouldn't need pads...not so...but I like the pre.
