Dither on the Lynx aes16

This is not really a mastering question , but if anyone knows dither its you guys.
There is a Dithering option on every channel of the Lynx AES16, in the main control software it comes with. I dont get it. Why would you put dither on something thats not being converted from 24 to 16.
Why is it there? should I have it turned on?
Thanks for the help, Bryan

the lynx mixer runs at 32bit float IIRC, so you get the option to dither down from there, it seems.
