I played hookey today, because I ended up at a remote place last night, 'til after midnight, just south, and west of Hell, proper.

Fibes was at it today. I shall return to it tomorrow... to hopefully finish the framing, while everyone else plays with eggs.

I go unloved, and I have no family! I am a failure at life!

(some beautiful, childless woman out there should be thanking her lucky stars)

Ahh .. Plywood and drums... is there any better combo? I think not.

This is one of our projects if we ever get around to it... building a removable unpainted plywood floor under the drums for resonance....

Today I just bought 16 2X2 "DryLock" panels.  They have them at Home Depot if you have not seen them.

Basically they are tongue and groove panels made out of plywood.  The bottom of each panel has rubber on it so it isolates from the floor below.

With these I made a removeable drum riser.  Not sure how it will sound yet but I could report back if wanted.

BTW the 16 panels cost about $95 total.

This might meet your needs as well.

The flooring at Elevated Basement is to be a bamboo t&g.

Nearly as dense as glass.

I don't recall that Electrical had any exposed cement block. Tons of exposed Adobe walls though.

Big difference between the two I believe.

(edit) and as soon as i open my big hands and start typing, i go to the electrical site... lo and behold, there is some exposed cement block in the studio b liveroom. my bad.

Hey Scott,

Unpainted, CAREFULLY sealed (or unsealed) concrete block is a very useful acoustic material, with good adsorption behavior up to about 4k.

If you use it carefully, typically the only other thing the space needs is diffusion.

Painted or heavily sealed, though, the stuff turns into a nightmare.

RPG's diffusorblox product is an interesting to investigate

Well I did a session of drum tracks today on the new "riser".  To me it sounded better then when the drums were on the concrete floor.  But then again I don't have to most trained ears.  It did make the drums sound better in the room for sure.

If anyone else gives this a try I'd love to hear what you think.

It's coming along. I do have some pics on the home computer but for some reason can't move files from there.

I'll be taking more tonight too.

90% sealed up on the main side.

In the last 2 hours, the sound became very nice. It's going to work out very well.
