When I have a preferance I am very specific about what I want and how I want it... when I don't really care, as long as it's labeled properly on the other end, that's all I ask [well that and not to ask me to explain what I did and/or why until the completion of the session or a meal break].

We are selling emotions, there are no emotions in a grid

that's so OFTEN, the right answer...

stick a mic on it... if it DOES'T sound good, then try another one... but first just put SOMETHING up.

I've had great luck with the A Designs Reddi tube DI  combined with the Littlelabs IBP and a PCP[for amp splits]..
The Eviltwin,Avalon,Sansamp,BassPod pro have all since been sold here.

Speaking of Little Labs, I had an Alsihad drum tracking session in last weekend and the guest engineer asked me what I had for D.I.'s for the bass player. Since he was looking at overdubbing the "keeper" bass the following week he said the make did not matter. I handed him the "Redeye" which I had just bought for re-amping duties and showed hime the mode switch.
Well I do not know if this was a happy accident but he plans on keeping a few of those tracks, the tone was absolutely GORGEOUS!
Thanks again Jonathan, that's two for two on my gear list!!

P.S. The instrument in question was a Stewart Spectre Design and the player is solid.

We've used a number of things over the years, but the preference by all players (of the gear we've had in) is the Radial JDI.  It's our 'go to' unit currently.

Yeah, we call it the "Jedi" here!

Also have the Radial J48, The Sansamp Bass DRiver, the LL IBP (surprisingly nice!!!), several DIs in mic pres (GR, API, etc.), and tons of those crappy Whirlwind Directors and Horizon boxes that are laying around from my live days.

Right now, I am liking a combination of the JDI and the Sansamp.

My retailer just tried to sell the BSS Audio AR-133 active DI to me, saying it is really one of the best.

Can anybody recommend the BSS Audio ?  How does it compare to the DI´s mentioned here like Radial, (active/passive ?) Reddi, U5, Sansamp, etc....
