BTW, I realise this is somewhat lightweight material for this forum... If the topic gets moved, so-be-it.

The hall of fame must have run out of rock bands, they should induct a few Hari Krishna's, they blow the Sex Pistol's away and have more songs.  Laughing

If the R&RHOF were in Memphis where rock and roll was first recorded, I wonder if they would have nominated the SP's. IIRC, they were boo'd off the stage in Memphis and were rapidly helped out of town.

They should have inducted Tiger Woods instead. Yes, I know Woods doesn't play a musical instrument, that's my point.

I saw a Hare Krishna rock band once & it was pretty funny because the lyrics were the same for every song (can you guess what they were?).. quite surreal..

So I'd say the Pistols would definitely win on the Hare's in the lyrics dept.

To be honest, I'm more of a PIL guy myself...

Ryan,

Have there been any Ska covers of Pistols songs? Enquiring minds need to know...

there is NO better record than Anarchy In the UK.

but personally I agree with him that the "hall of fame' is a waste of time.

go johnny go!

arguably, these boys have done more for rock'n'roll than all the inductees put together

it's not about the music, it's about the attitude

although, anarchy, god save the queen and pretty vacant are all classics

Ok, I'll split it 50/50 with you. The Hare Krishna's only have one song so less lyrics, but they play that one song more than the Pistols play all of their tunes and blow them away musically.

Will do you really think that Anarchy is better than:

Electric Ladyland
ABB at Fillmore East
Eagles Greatest Hits
Dark Side of the Moon
Led Zepellin One
Goodbye Cream
and last but least Dino, Desi and Billy   Very Happy

the problem i have with the grammys and the hall of fame and other such like activities, is the very presumption that one act or record is better than another

note that william wrote: "no better record..."

i don't know if that's he meant (probably not), but to me the concept of comparison is ludicrous

music is not an olympic event!

The only one that's even close is Zep I. The Pistols crap all over everything else on this list.

IMO,

It's about time.  To paraphrase somebody more poetic than myself....

A "Hall of Fame" of Rock and Roll is like a....

Museum of SCREWING!

It's about the moment - both for the person making the music and the person listening..  What do awards and halls of fame have to do with that?

They're for the record companies - not for the music makers...

You want to honor the heroes of music?  Quit stealing their royalties!

Rant over...

Well, done, John!
