George,

The True Systems Precision 8 unit can be bought new for U$2300.

They are really good, transparent sounding pres.

my two cents...

George,
Before you purchase please do yourself a favor and check out the JLM TMP8, a very nice 8 channel pre that costs just about what you have to spend.

I have one and it occupies the channels 1 through 8 slot in my mic pre rack among other such as Amek/Neve 9098s, Millennia STT-1 Sebatron VMP 4000e and a Seb Thorax. I use it all the time on drums but it's great on vocals guitars and line sources as well.

I have also had the chance to compare it against other pres as well like the MP2NV and I think it's just about as good as it gets.

Here's a review I posted;

The ATI unit sounds great, and it has a quite useful limiter on each channel. 8MX2, if I remember correctly.

For a 4-channel unit you can't beat the API 3124.

Vintech has a few units that sound great. Their Dual 72 goes for U$ 1300, which for your budget would give you 4 channels. I never directly compared it to an actual 1272, but I love my Dual 72.

thanx for the replies. I totally forgot this thread.

I went with an AUDIENT ASP008 because it has an optional ADAT expansion. I am very pleased. superclean, nice transient response.

No I dont like the API's. I usually had problems with the hyped highs and lows to mix that correctly.

I wanted to test this JLM but it was not possible here in Swiss (because no one I know has one). My friend bought a Sytek and we are both very pleased!

thanx a lot guys!
