Urei LA-12
« on: March 28, 2011, 08:31:00 PM »

I see my shop is about to surplus a LA-12 in very nice condition. It has a DOM on the back panel which shows it was manufactured in 1994. I have no experience with this unit and frankly I think it is already taken by another co-worker. A quick web search showed a few comments both good and not-so-good. Just curious what others may have to say about this unit.

I've had an LA22 for about 15 years and have gotten a lot of good use out of it. It is solid and I find it excellent for vocals and for tightening up kick drum. The LA12 doesn't have all the circuitry of the 22 so you may not have this problem but mine had a habit of blowing out voltage regulators. After replacing a few I took a chassis punch to the top of the unit and extended the heat sinks on the regulators. No regulator failures for quite a few years now.
