I understand the "charm" comment.
ADAT's suck.
So did a number of my ex-girlfriends.
(in the most negative meaning of the word "suck", that is)
However, some good times were had.
I remember that they all had their own "charm" about them.
If your first 16-24 track multi track experience was on an ADAT, you were probably stoked about it at the time. I was. Bought 2 black faces as soon as they came out for 4000. I was totally excited.
Of course the day I replaced them was an incredibly happy day as well. I don't miss the ADAT sound, or waiting for them to lock up, or splicing a tape back together and copying it onto another tape and then trying to get them to sync, and.... but I did have fun with them and make some good music with them. Go back to them? Hell no!
charm? well, there's good in almost everything if you look deep enough.
