16 vs 8 track heads
« on: January 16, 2006, 12:38:58 am »

Hello Steve,
Where did you get the A820 16 track heads: Studer, JRF or somewhere else?  I also notice you have the 2inch 8 track headstack.  Track count aside, what is your sonic report?
much appreciated.

We got the 16-track heads from JRF, the repro head is a custom Flux Magnetics head much like the mastering grade, extended low freq. type he makes for the 2-tracks.  Phenomenal.
We don't have a 2" 8-track headstack.  To my knowledge, Steve has never used that format before.
We do have a 1" 8-track (MCI JH-16) which sounds great, but not as good . . .
Steve?
Flowery words?

On the Electrical Audio website the A820MCH page mentions: 2" 8-track headblock rentable.  As the price for both 8 and 16 track heads is roughly the same I was wondering if half the tracks was worth twice the width.

We can rent the 2" 8-track headblock if anyone needs it.  We own the 16-track headblock.  I'd be curious if it (Cool is worth it as well.
