Hi, I want to mount a V672 into a spare slot of my Lunchbox.
Is there a decent way to get the needed +24V from the API +and - 18V ?

Hi

The "decent way" would be to provide the V672 with a good quality independant 24v power supply with adequate power reserves to light it up.

With several caveats, like assuming the V672 is transformer floating in and out, and you won't be connecting the "0v" of the V672 to ground at any point (unless you want sparks), you could regulate the 36volts down to 24v with a 7824 (if it has the power to drive a V673) or something adjustable like a LM317T... but, I wouldn't recommend it.

Spoiling ships for a ha'p worth of tar springs to mind...



PS If still determined to try to use the +/- 18v, a more elegant way is to use a 7812 positive 12v regulator and a 7912 negative regulator and feed them with the +18/0/-18. Then the decoupling caps around the regulators will be referenced to 0v.

Then take the +12v and -12v outputs as your 24v rail.

Don't connect 0v to any part of the 672's power supply connections.

This is how Neve fitted 33609 compressors into the 8108/8128 that used +/- 22 volt rails.
