Mogwai - 'Mr. Beast'
« on: February 13, 2006, 11:04:57 AM »

Has anyone else heard this? I love it, sounds like they've gone back to the "My Father My King" type of stuff. It's dark sounding, I dig it... anyone? anyone?

I'm pretty sure that you would dig them as well (they fall into the Mono, Pelican, Explosions In the Sky, category)... I'm a fan of all of their stuff.. their last record 'Happy Songs for Happy People' even came with a Cubase SX session for one of the tracks and it was pretty cool to hear the sounds individually and also see how they layout their sessions and have the ability to 'remix' the track... I'm such a nerd.

if that's the case, I'm excited about it. I've appreciated their foray into more "accessible" songs over the last 2 records, but have missed some of the earth shattering craziness of ten rapid or young team (helicon anyone?). how bout that live show eh? freaking loud. loudest room i've ever been in (although i've heard my bloody valentine stories), I hear they travel with extra amps to power the pa's.

My bass player has seen them twice (bastard) and I've missed them both times but, have seen some bootlegged live stuff and was very impressed. I've seen Mono and they're insanely LOUD, I've heard the same stories about MBV as well... I have to catch Mogwai this time around.

bring earplugs. i was younger and stupid ("they can't be THAT loud") and played in bands for years. they are that loud. almost unbearably loud (ended up stuffing paper in my ears, didn't help much, half the crowd scrambled for toilet paper / towels once they started.)
