what some of your habits are on the two buss.

Also, it would be interesting to know what kind of software you prefer for editing.

I edit on tape.

I generally don't use anything on the two bus. Certainly no compression or limiting. Occasionally I will use a mastering-caliber stereo equalizer, if the mix as a whole needs a general adjustment. That's pretty rare. Maybe one or two times a month.

Gotta salute that and offer to iron your hair shirt.

Obviously it follows that you expend tons of effort on sounds before they hit tape.

Got any particular go-to habits? Drums first?

I ask because I'm oriented a bit the same way, but I use Radar instead of tape. A lot less bleeding fingers.

What's a mstering quality equaliser?

I know many 'world class' mastering engineers who have everything from the expected Sontecs and GML eq's to things like Tube Techs and API's and Focusrites in their desks.
Sometimes things I wouldn't consider putting on my mix.

Sontec, GML, NTI, a couple of shelves Greg Norman built. Nothing I would have to worry about. Nothing wacky, just clean, subtle stuff.

Your interview in last September's Sound On Sound was a very insightful and enjoyable read, Steve, I hope it reflected your approach correctly, as I can certainly say that it has changed a lot in my thoughts about your work and the way you work toward an increasing respect.

Keep it up dude.
