We use the Yamaha subkick and also have a homemade NS-10 woofer version. They both sound about the same. We sometimes use the NS-10 under a floor tom when we realy want big lows.

curious, has anyone tried one of these setups on a bass rig to get some low lows?

Having tried the subkick on a number of different sources, I have found it to be nearly useless for anything other than kick drum.
I do like it on kick, though.
