I hate to break the bad news here, but Compression just phoned me and, after some rather unpleasant interrogation, finally admitted to actually being the devil.

As I have used it once, I was shocked to have participated in this.

I love compression, but hate excessive compression. I love a good solo in a song too, but not four wanking concurrently throughout the entire song. That would be fusion.

For me it entirely depends on the instrument and material. For certain typs of metal I absolutely love it crushed into oblivion. Other types of metal I kinda like a natural more open and untamed sound.
Classical.... Jazz....

Country should be crushed until nothing escapes the output but thats just me Wink

I have nothing against compression. You could even say that I like compression. Some of my best friends are compression

If you could wave a magic wand and make all compressors vanish from the face of the earth and all its impact on recordings disappear as well, most of the recorded music that exists would sound pretty crummy IMHO. I use it less and less, but when I need it, it makes an huge difference in improving the way things sound. I'd hate to have to go through compression withdrawal symptoms.

Compression is like a close up lens with little depth of field. When none are employed the film looks like a bad documentary. When too much is used it's an annoying MTV video. No right or wrongs here, it's just up to the filmmaker to decide which way tells the story the best.

Compression is a tool and an effect. It's a color.

Could you paint a picture wihtout using black? Sure you could, but depending on the subject matter, it might not look as good without it.

I love compression. I use it a lot, sometime I use it a little. I track and mix with it. If something sounds too compressed, I just compress it more! (kidding).

Seriously I do love compression. My gear lust doesn?t have many preamps but I want 40 channels of compression.
