"Better", maybe, in that one specific respect. But it is perfectly possible to have a rich, large presentation in stereo with not to large losses in mono. There is always an ambience loss in mono.
I'd rather have a master that sounds better in stereo than another master as long as the losses in mono are not that great.
But when you say "listener-friendly", can you elaborate?
