Mono Mastering
« on: January 18, 2006, 07:16:02 AM »

IF you a/b 2 different masters of the same mix and one sounds
objectively more listener friendly in mono, would you say this master has been mastered "better"

"Better", maybe, in that one specific respect. But it is perfectly possible to have a rich, large presentation in stereo with not to large losses in mono. There is always an ambience loss in mono.

I'd rather have a master that sounds better in stereo than another master as long as the losses in mono are not that great.

But when you say "listener-friendly", can you elaborate?
