I've got a stupid question:  How would I connect a scope to my rig (Digi002R)?  How do I get from standard outputs (xlr, trs, etc...) to BNCs to go into the scope?  I'm sure the answer is obvious.

Interfacing unbalanced and balanced lines isn't obvious. Some things will work most of the time but not all the time. Vague enough for you? Every solution has it's pitfalls and also depends on the source circuit.

Another feature of the HP1200A is that it has a floating balanced input. Very handy.

You want to do a lissajoux pattern to check stereo image issues? That's pretty basic. If you're not using the headphone output of your Digi 002R, then tip of the headphone jack goes to tip of the vertical input to the scope, and ring to the other, and ground to the ground of the BNC. The simplest route is to buy a premade BNC to BNC cable and cut it in half and wire that to a 1/4" TRS male without too much trouble and you're done! I like to calibrate the scope with a known mono signal, which you can do by running one mono track in PT panned to the middle. Adjust it so it lands on the diagonal. Left only will go vertical, right only will go horizontal.

Hope this helps,

For an x-y pattern or playing 'one of these things is not like the other' than most anything will work. As a general rule I wouldn't permanently hang anything off the master buss unless you know it's okay.

I always keep a pair of transformers around. Problem solved.

Most desks have an "auxiliary monitor" or "remote meter" output that isn't used. We hang the scope on that output, that way any external source (like a reference recording) can be lookd-at on the scope as well, but the scope isn't hanging on the 2-bus.

They have to be silver wired and with nickel iron cores, otherwise it won't work at all.

Silver wire reduces distortion of the hair cells.

Nickel is as strong as the buffaloes that they print on them.

The simplest thing is to put a single great A/D converter on the 2 bus, and then you can have a million D/A converters, some feeding scopes, etc., without being concerned about loading down the 2 bus too much. Hey, look at an SSL or Neve or MCI patchbay.... without any buffer or distribution amps, there's provision to load down the 2 bus with zillions of 2 track machines. It's hardly a concern in most cases, low z source, high z load.
