How about making a song for a scene in an imaginary film. For instance, a car chase scene, or a scene where the main character finds out he has 2 weeks to live. There are probably a lot more funny/interesting ideas that someone can come up with for scenes, but this is just an idea in the vein of the oblique strategies that may be easier for everyone to understand and follow.

back from orlando.....good vacation....i'm rested.

drums:

must be cut to a click

must have three different beats and a good portion of fills to choose from.  you can "write" a song on the drums so people can not do any editing if they are not into that.  otherwise you need to prep the drums for some serious slice and dice action.

16bit 44.1 wav files are required.  i will host the files on my FTP.

the cards:

what i meant was that when cards are drawn, we will make an effort to follow their direction.  i understand the concept of the cards and that they can not be millitantly enforced.  they are meant to be a tool to spark creativity.  i just don't think we should use them if we already agree to dismiss them if we don't like what they say.

if we use them, we use them....otherwise we won't use them at all.

i think it might be cool to do a concept "record"

i'll pick the concept and list the themes the record needs to have.  each person signing up to participate will choose from the list and write a song to that theme.  then we take all the final songs and make a record.

themes will be easy to write to and not like they were in the past.

I think that pretty much sums up what it should be.  I'm definitely interested and can't wait to start...

Bacon Skin, what kind of time frame are we talking about for the drums?  Draw cards now?  Should they be randomly selected?

Very challenging and fun.

Can we talk about "the cards" please.

A couple examples would help make it clear as to what the concept is.

(I'm not totally clear on the cards concept but won't let that stop me from participating!)

In the other thread Bacon skin drew a card that said "Abandon normal instruments."

So that morphed into alternate tunings-- and I think that's a pretty valid usage.

Any minor tuning.

My guess is that most people that use alternate tunings, use major key tunings, so let's try something that's a stretch.

I have no experience w/alternate tunings myself, but that restriction is much more paletable than "abandon normal instruments" which to me means: no guitar bass drums.
