Spoon........ the band.
« on: December 21, 2005, 12:56:01 PM »

Now here is a group that never ceases to amaze me.

www.spoontheband.com/

Great tunes that sound great.

I saw them live once and they killed. A very tight band, and I hear so many cool influences in them, yet they are so original and fresh.

Check'em out if you don't know about them.

I agree.  They are absolutely one of my all-time favorite bands, and it's criminal that they aren't "bigger".  They've gotten where they are through sheer moxie.  Their talent level as musicians is very high, and Britt Daniel's talent as a songwriter is off the charts.

I engineered their very first release, The Nefarious EP, which ended up being distributed by Matador.  I recorded it in Britt's living room on a pair of DA-88s through a pair of Mackie 1604 "mixing boards"!  Just another example of the artist being much more important than the gear.

Everybody, from any end of the spectrum, should take notice of this group.

Jimmy jazz, it must have been a pleasure to record them and very satisfying.

And I agree, with a group like this the gear doesn't really matter.

It was, although it was as much a "mutual favor" as anything else.  I had taken delivery of my shiny new gear the day we started tracking, and the band had no money, so . . . match made in heaven!

I'll have to check out the Nefarious EP if I can find it.  I loved their first couple albums and did an interview with the Producer/Engineer Mike McCarthy.
