Hi PSW'ers,
Hope you're all well, just wanted to share a project and series I'm launching to help my local artists have a visual outlet that can get them exposure and new fans. Take a look at the first video, it's a band called Mother Mother and they are putting out their 3rd record on the 15th of this month (March)

Check it out, feel free to comment and please suscribe! More videos coming.

Thanks,

While this thread did seem slightly spammish, I loved that video.  Great song, take, vibe, recording.  Is that a CS-1 on the lead vox?

I haven't watched the video... but unless there is something that is production oriented being highlighted then its not really for a production oriented forum... as you thought the music / production qualities were great then it belongs here in "The Saloon" where there is lighter fare and music / videos for your dining and dancing pleasure.

Peace.

We are selling emotions, there are no emotions in a grid

"Recording engineers are an arrogant bunch
If you've spent most of your life with a few thousand dollars worth of musicians in the studio, making a decision every second and a half... and you and  they are going to have to live with it for the rest of your lives, you'll get pretty arrogant too.  It takes a certain amount of balls to do that... something around three"

Hi, sorry for this late reply. I had lost this thread and couldn't find it!

That is actually an AKG C12VR. As amazing as that mic sounded on Ryans voice (not to mention, he is an amazing singer), that mic was more of a miss than a hit on most sound sources. It also ended up breaking twice, so I exchanged it for 2x Sennheiser MD441-Us and a Shure KSM313 which I'm loving.

To the OP:  Did you engineer and/or produce the band?

I am already a fan of "Mother Mother" (band is from British Columbia, Canada) and, while I find the music excellent and eclectic, I took specific notice of the production and mixing, especially on the last two releases.

It was interesting to see that the drummer has a more delicate and deliberate touch than I had imagined.  This conjures questions about mics, compression and rooms.

Rather than simply promote the group, I would appreciate a discussion from the recording/production/mastering point of view.

Hi Adam,
I did not engineer or produce the bands studio albums, this live performance was part of a series I'm doing with my own studio.

Everyone in the band is very musically talented. They have worked and collaborated a lot with a Vancouver producer Howard Redekopp, (Tegan and Sara, Said The Whale, You Say Party! We Say Die!, The New Pornographers, 54-40). Ryan self-produced their most recent record Eureka.

They have a photoalbum on their Facebook "Recording Eureka", where you can see some gear used:

I know a local engineer Shawn Penner has done most if not all the engineering on their records. I believe they tracked most of Eureka at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver, and did vocals at a different smaller studio, I'm not sure where.
