So much talk about art and engineering and the only definative concept I can pull from it is there are no answers just more questions.
I'm calling bullshit on it all.
Why?
Because part of why I got into this is because I wanted more control over MY STUFF and for local artists to have more control over theirs.
It's a given.
That doesn't make what we do akin to packing boxes.
The one thing our shop has going for it over all else is versatility and adaptability. Our clients count on this because in a small market specialization is a losing part of the business plan unless yer talking commercials.
No lines in the sand just service.
The key to satisfying all of these disparate clients is easy.
Listen hard to the clients and treat them with respect.
Respect.
Respect.
R E S P E C T.
Respect the client, the material, their wishes and respectfully listen. Listen really hard, read between the lines and give them what they want not what they ask for.
If they want your input give it, but only if you have something to give.
Above all else shut up and listen.
But what if they are way off track and need to be steered back in the(ir) right direction? Communicate. talk to them about it. Educate them so they can make informed decisions and for Mithra's sake listen to what they are saying when they ask questions and don't pout when they go their own route, rise to the challenge and give it your best.
We're all a link in the chain and for art to happen we have to be on board with our ears peeled and pulling our weight.
Adapt, adapt, adapt.
Grow your vocabulary and make it first nature.
Challenge is good.
Rant over...
