SRC - when?
zakco:
Hi There,
Thought I'd grab the honor of posting the first OT thread in Brads' new digs...
I've begun working at 96k for certain projects and I use batch processing in "sample manager" for SRC and bit depth reduction/dithering. I'm clear on the advantages to applying dither after all other editing/processing, but is there any compelling reason not to apply SRC after the dither?

SRC will create a "wide word" and you would have to dither again. Why dither twice when once (in the right spot) will do?
bblackwood:
Yah, dither is required after any digital processing - SRC is no different. That said, I'd be surprised if the SRC algorithm didn't dither the results.
zakco:
Ahh...good information, thanks!
This is as simple as re-ordering the "modules" in sample manager to put the SRC before the dither.
For some reason, I was under the impression that SCR was somehow different than fades edits etc...now I know!

For me it depends whether I am going analogue or not, sometimes it doesn't.
cheers
