Title: M49 Capsule capacitor (C4)
Post by: Steve Culp on December 08, 2006, 03:07:57 PM
I have some M49s that have an 8pf capacitor between the capsule and the plate of the AC701. I am interested in dropping this to 4pf. What is the best replacement for the original capacitors? Metal film? It appears the old ones are glass, but I can't find a modern day source... Any recommendations?

Thanks for moderating Oliver!

Do you have a good cap tester?  If so look for wire wrap wire.  Some is teflon with OFHC copper and a silver plating.  Twist a small lenght and measure it if it to high clip some off, this might take a few tries.  This is an old trick to make a small value cap.

I use shrink tube to hold the wire tight and at small pf values you need to shape and test it the shape it will be installed.
