Title: Background on Move to New Forum Software
Post by: Fletcher on January 30, 2011, 03:14:51 PM
Hey all -- several of the moderators just got off a conference call -- the good news is that we're in agreement that we're going to be keeping "the band together", right here on PSW.
There will be a meeting with the "powers that be" at EH Publishing [the mother ship company that owns PSW to work on establishing REP forums' autonomy distinct and separate from the other PSW forums.

There are a few other things that we're going to be asking EH Publishing to do - things that will make the transition to the new software a bit easier for all involved... SO... please all keep hanging and posting on this set of forums until we get the other kinks worked out.

Please read the next post about the outcome of the meeting. K.H.

A little peek backstage - the current set of forums is run on a software called "FUD" which is no longer supported properly and eats up way too much server space.  Another bug: our forums are down two hours a night for "back up" - one of the things that will ABSOLUTELY change in the next incarnation.

Our goal [R/E/P administrators and moderators] is to continue to provide the highest level of Audio Production discussion forums with the highest "signal to noise", highest level of competency, as well as lowest corporate "spamming" of any forum set.  At this point, the things we're dealing with are all infrastructure and should be sorted out in short order.

Thanks for your patience during this period. In the meanwhile, let's keep sharing our communal knowledge, and hopefully grow as engineers, techs, producers, etc.

Peace.

Just got word that all REP forums, including this one, will soon be better supported than ever by the management of PSW- with more intuitive and adaptive software, which will allow us finally total autonomy of how we like to run the show here at REP. We have been promised better user interface, easier setup, individualized gate-keeping and supervision, and, listening to our main concern, the best possible software was found that will allow us to archive and access threads and posts from the past

Most importantly to me, there will be a continuation of the company policy of total separation between editorial content and all forms of advertising. Put another way: This forum will not deteriorate to a playground for peddlers of goods and services masquerading as your friendly impartial advise column.

Critical attitudes will continue to be treasured here. My kind of place. I am excited!
