Hi:
The CD drive in my Masterlink is starting to malfunction, playback becomes intermittent (stuttery) usually about 4 or 5 tracks into a CD. I was wondering if the drives in these things are the standard drives from a desktop PC, and if so whether or not a non-tech like myself would be able to replace it (I have replaced the internal HD in past).
I don't use the unit professionally anymore, it's been relegated to the CD player in my home stereo, so I'm a little reluctant to spend a bunch on it.
Thanks.

Have you checked for dust on the lens?
DO NOT spray canned air in the hole or on the lens! This is a job for a light touch with camel hair brush if needed. Never had much success with the "lens cleaning" CD's.
Is it doing it with both "manufactured" and self-burned discs?

I did not check the lens. I assumed that since the problem always seems to start part way into a CD that it was a 'transport' (is that the right word? Tracking?) issue.
How would I best access the lens, thru the front tray door, or..?
Thanks.

I have the same issue with my ML CD player & have also always assumed it was the player. I've looked under the hood (replaced HD a few years ago) & I recall the ML CD player itself looked to be an off the shelf PC type one - probably cheap & easy to find. Curious how you resolve this one. Fwiw I never thought to clean the lens either.. think I will give it a try..
