Sound treatment 4 a BIG room question
« on: November 15, 2005, 03:42:34 PM »

I just moved my studio gear into a monstrous room. It's 20' x 40' square with 15' ceilings. The walls are mortar brick from the 1940's, and the ceiling has many pipes and stell/iron gurders throughout. Definitely not a flat surface. No windows and only 1 door. This room is large enough to fit the control area, plus my kit (which is not a small thing) plus other instruments and what not.

Right now I am getting much bouncing and lots of just natural reverb. Any thoughts on taming this shrew and getting the best sound I can from this room without killing what it "is" giving me so far? Thanks

Big.

You can treat the whole space, or you can localize it all, with portable traps.

You probably knew that much, but other than wrapping parts of the ceiling, I don't have enough info to make any other assertion.

I'd start with portable stuff, and worry about problem areas as I see them. Find the sweet spots.
