there is no best sounding EQ, may it be hard or soft. Get yourself some extremely good monitors and you can mix with any EQ that you can lay your bloody hands on.
You can only control what you here.

even though I agree with this statment in general, it has not worked for me ITB as of yet... I could just not get confortable with any of my EQing options... I have Waves renn EQs and URS... .both are nice and have been getting the job done, but again did not have the same cozy feeling as when I was working my console...
....BUT I just got the waves SSL eqs, and I am pretty happy... for the first time ITB I feel comfortable cranking some frequencies without the source getting thin and brittle on me... until the now, the URS have been my go to EQs... but the WAVES seem a little more thick when you start working those knobs....err...circles on the the screen
so even though I agree it's the person not the tools that makes records, sometimes it's just easier when you find the tools that suite your needs...
