"Schadow" F-series switches discontinued
« on: August 26, 2005, 12:53:26 AM »

I was talking with a sales rep at Hawk Electronics today, and he told me that ITT Cannon has discontinued the F-series.  Combined with the fact that the mechanically similar TA switches from E-Switch are also discontinued, we all have an interesting problem brewing since that was one of the most popular switches used in recording gear.

Just for grins, I did a "head count" on an MCI JH-686 I/O module and there's approx. 38 F-series switches per module.  And, the JH-636 isn't exactly a "huge Cadillac" desk........

Yes, bad news indeed..

Hope that ALPS or some other OEM takes over. Things could quickly get pretty nasty if nobody wants to make them..

Wow! I guess that explains why my rep said the switch I want is 16 weeks out and I should find something else.

Hello Aromat.....

I do not believe this is the case.

I just called ITT and asked them about it.  They told me that they were no longer making a couple of switch caps but they were still making the switches.

If you treat the Shadow switches with Stabilant 22A, you will not need to worry about them wearing out, they last for 30 years this way.

The sales rep at the ITT distributor (Hawk Electronics) may have been in error.  I also spoke with a rep at ITT and he told me "he had no knowledge" of the F-series being discontinued.  However, it *was* a discussion couched in weasel words <g>.

Not after an NS-10 lands on them!

Only in the sense that I've decided to use relays instead of switches on a current project.

To add some more insult to injury....

E-Switch has also discontinued their MTH line, which was a decent replacement for the little Alps switches used in MANY desks.

I hated the Alps switches (white body with a blue "element" in the plastic molding) since  they would fall apart if you looked at them wrong.

Also, some desks used 6 pole switches, and I don't find anything...anywhere...as a new replacement.

I guess we all need to quit using any analog desks.... send them all to the landfill along with the bazillion CRT-equipped TV sets which are immune to the Euro RoHS directive.
