opinions on Foxtex D2424LV Hard disc thingy?

In an ideal world, we'd all have full-on Radar rigs for this sort of thing, but these Fostex beasties are really cheap- like, $1299. Essentially, I'm a musician who sucks at pro tools- tons of frustration and it makes me not record 'cuz I hate it so much. I love recording on my Otari 8 track, but that's not so practical for dragging to the practice space to do a  guitar overdub.

I need something I can use to record live gigs, but also hope to use it for some home recording. The main question is: does anyone know habout the editing software on these? Can you just export the files to pro tools somehow and use the plug ins and then put it back on the machine or anything along those lines? Any opinions, please.
