Analog recording
« on: April 20, 2017, 03:41:55 PM »

Hey folks. I'm just graduating college and I'm looking at getting into sound recording. I was wondering if there's any recording formats that replicate analog sound really well. If not, I'm going to look into writing my own format for storing analog signals in a digital format, but I was wondering if the community had any resources I can look into first.

My apologies if I'm posting inappropriately.

None of them.

And that includes analogue tape.

If you think any format's playback sounds like source, you need your ears tested.

So...the question then becomes "which sound do you like?" followed by "which implementation of said format allows you to achieve your desired outcome?"

Good luck with your endeavours.

Cheers,
Tim

What is your definition of "analog sound"?  There are all kinds of things that are analog that have a 'sound'... and there are things that are digital that have 'a sound'... its more about what you find aesthetically pleasing than any given moniker / label.  The second you're talking "sound" traveling down a wire, you're talking about equipment... and ALL equipment affects "the sound"...

Peace
