Sheffield Labīs microphones, any info?
« on: December 08, 2015, 09:58:27 pm »

Hello everyone,
Iīm trying to find information about Sheffield Lab microphones . For all I know so far they were based on the AKG  C12 capsule , they were transformerless and the power supply came with a version of the Mastering Lab Tube preamp, and delivered line level.
If anyone has more info, or a schematic I would really appreciate it.

Regards

P.D: some more info can be seen in this post

What would you like to know ? I highly doubt a schematic would happen but I know the guy who built them... And have used them a bit. The internal parts of the mic aren't important. What is important about the mic is the capsule. When Doug was having them built he would have AKG send a dozen CK12 capsules and they would test them and send the ones back that didn't cut it. Sometimes they sent all 12 back. They stopped making the mics and never made them again because AKG stopped making the capsule.

Respectfully, if the impedance converter without tranformer didn't matter much, then why did TML guys go to the trouble? They could have just bought or rented AKG C12's. I understand the electronics provide a sound that's different from a C12.
