Plastic repair for C28?
« on: April 06, 2014, 07:37:52 PM »

I'm working on a C28A that has seen better days.  Sadly, the plastic pieces have been stressed and some of them have cracks by the screw holes, making it impossible to get a screw to hold in them.

I'm thinking of using Plas-T-Pair to try to repair them.  Does anyone have any experience trying this kind of repair?  Anybody have any suggestions that might work better?

Thanks!

Please upload a close-up photo of the area, preferably better than iPhone 4 quality.

Here's a picture of one of them.  It's had some attempted repair in the past.

Not sure how common this is with C28s.

Thanks!

For these kind of repairs, acrylic or other plastic glue that uses ultraviolet light as a hardening accelerator is ideal: you can shape before applying the UV light, the material hardens instantly with the light, then  you can build up some more, file, shape some more, until the shape you created is ideal.
The new material will be as hard as the original plastic or acrylic: There is no need to wait endlessly for the material to dry. It's the same bonding process we are familiar with from dentistry: the ultraviolet light hardens the bonding material exposed to the light with in seconds.
