Stereo KM54s
« on: August 17, 2013, 04:53:54 PM »

Hi Folks,
I have a pair of KM84's with consecutive serial numbers that I use in stereo for guitar mandolin electric guitar. They give a beautiful position picture which collapses impeccably into mono. I also have a single KM54 which I prefer on acoustics. I have been thinking about getting a second 54 but wondered about mono/stereo compatibility in one so old. Anyone got any experience with stereo KM54's on acoustic instruments.
Thanks
DL.

Our studio has an impeccably maintained, all original SM-2, which is pretty much two KM-56s in one body as a coincident pair.

It's incredible for lots of things... piano, acoustic guitar (although I usually like mono acoustic guitar for most things), etc.

I think you'd really like a partner for your KM-54, if you can find one that matches to your satisfaction for stereophony. If not... SM2s are out there, and compared to a pair of KM54 or KM56 are fairly reasonably priced, many times.
