AT 4040 Disassembly
« on: April 24, 2013, 06:58:13 PM »

Dear List,

I have an Audio Technica AT4040 mic, one of a pair, that needs repair. Compared to the good one, the faulty one has an elevated noise floor, some 3dB lower output, and distorts when driven. These are both almost new with very little use.

The mic is not worth enough to send to a specialist. I am wondering if a PCB replacement might be the first step to try to repair it.

I undid the three circumferential barrel screws, but the sleeve does not want to slide off, being caught by something inside. Any assistance in the barrel removal would be appreciated.

Many thanks
