Question to ME´s using PT HD10.3.2/32 Bits
« on: October 20, 2012, 10:16:42 AM »

SRC quality with Pro Tools HD 10.3.2/32bit x 8.1.1HD/24Bits
Hi,

Most of the time I use Pro Tools HD for mastering.

So, latency compensation and SRC quality are crucial to our daily tasks.

I have bought Ozone 5 which is said to have a superior Sample Rate Conversion Quality. Also, Sample manager is considered to be a great tool for batch conversion and bit truncation.

My question is: Is there a leap in quality with Pro Tools HD10.x/32 Bits in terms of SRC versus 8.1.1 HD/24 Bits?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Alécio,

I don't think the SRC algorithm has been changed or improved with PT's 10. 32bit floating point is usually the minimum precision used in any case. This has been the same as with PT's LE which was also 32bit float when it came about in version 5. So no improvements there.

As for Ozone 5, it doesn't include the iZotope SRC. To get this you need to buy the iZotope RX2 advanced bundle which has a standalone 64bit SRC processor. Sample manager also uses the iZotope SRC so this is the cheaper way to obtain it and there is no difference in the quality although if you want the advanced preferences option you have to pay a bit extra to have this included in SM.

Hope this helps.

Latency compensation, bounce length with/without ADC, Sample Manager
« Reply #2 on: November 03, 2012, 10:00:40 AM »

Thanks, Matt.

I have the basic Ozone 5 but frankly, up to now I have not used it.
The interface makes me get dizzy judt looking for a few minutes.

I am really thinking of picking sample manager or its similar brother, wave editor.

With sample manager is possible to cut, adjust pre-rools and things like that?

I work with heavy latency plug-ins within Pro Tools HD 8.1.1 and this version just can not handle the total delay added  in the session.

So, I decided to work without the ADC.

However, I always have to bounce with a security gap. Just to clarify this:

If a song has 5 minutes, I bounce it with 5:00:850. ( Manual compensation)
At the end I have the whole song bounced/SRCed but with an added silence at the begining of the file.

With ADC engaged this is not corrected and I endeded up with the end of the file cut.

We haven't made the leap to PT 10 yet, but curiosity is beginning to rear its head.

Especially about plug-ins sounding more ~transparent~ in 32-bit native environment.

Specifically Sonnox Supressor which I use for DeEssing.

Best, JT
