Hi,

Today I received a very weird request: I should send the client mastered files at 16 Bits @ 8kHz Mono wave pcm.

First I did the recording-mixing-mastering at 44.1kHz/ 24 Bits, then generated Mp3 320 kbps stereo, dithered 44.1khz 16 bits ( Cd Quality) and finally, the mono versions at the requested rates.

when I tried to listen to the final product at a Pt HD session of course the converted 16bits/8kHz distorted a bit. So, I returned to the original session and lowered the limiter ceilings. I also listened at itunes.

So, what should have been another method of previewing these results without the guessing factor?

a) should have I inserted a Q10 with the Waves Telephone Quality preset?
b) Lowered the limiter ceiling even further?
c) Added an HPF at 200 Hz and a LPF at 8khz at my sessionmaster fader?

My client "ordered" the company to connect an mp3 player to the telephone central. LOL

She listened to some audios at that low rate from other clients of his and was shocked.

Any opinions are welcomed!

That's one of the weirdest requests I think I've ever heard.

That's like test driving a car by revving the engine and turning the steering wheel but never engaging into "drive".

you could use a bit-crusher plugin to preview this. . .  there are several choices out there, and some are free VST.  here's some choices i know of

they still would output at your session sample rate and bit depth, but you can get a real time idea of where things are going at that low quality.
