Kernel Panic With GarageBand and Yamaha M7CL
« on: October 18, 2011, 10:52:16 AM »

Hi all!

During recording, we're running an XLR to 1/8 Cable from one of the Onmni Outs of the M7CL to the line in on a 2011 iMac. We've been recording in Garageband, but have been experiencing kernel panics an alarming number of times. Some sessions it will record fine, and others it will freeze up (causing us to lose anything recorded to that point.) Apple's technicians refuse to acknowledge anything is wrong with the Mac side of things- they seem to think the problem is either with the signal or the board.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Could it be a problem with the digital/analog signals? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

??

You're only using the XLR to 1/8th jack as an analog tie-line ... there can't be a problem with the signal (I mean it could be , but it would be noisey, intermittent etc .. nto make kernal panics).

Or are you trying to use a digital adapter? ... Aes to lightpipe (the mac 1/8th input is dual purpose .. both analog copper, and digital over TOS link).

But if the board isn't connected to the computer (over usb, etc..) and running stand-along than I don't see how it could possibly create a kernel panic in the OS.
