Joys of winter 2011 and evacuations
« on: February 04, 2011, 03:44:20 PM »

Just finished cutting a record and knock at the door. Back of building sagging and being evacuated until snow roof removal+approved to re-enter. A few local buildings have collapsed here the past few days so...

As quickly as I can the sterling is emptied, gear packed in car, along with computers, HD's, cutterhead...vintage synths etc.  you get the picture. two more trips back and forth to house(monitors, sub, forgot the Zuma!...). There is no way to quickly move a Neumann lathe... time to cross fingers and hope not chasing insurance to replace.

4 hours later two engineers approve building and 3/4 snow removed from roof.
fun day and time to rewire!

Dude - that totally sucks!  What a drag - I still think you did the right thing - better safe than sorry!

Man that does suck!  I'm surprised they allowed you the time to gather the gear.  Gives new meaning to the phrase "You can pry my MassiveBaxSong from my cold dead hands"....

Glad it worked out ok.

Cheers,
Ruairi

All good now. In the end I lost a good cutting stylus only... and most a day of work.

I added up what was in the first car load and there was no way to keep me out of here. even with all of it insured...

Only thing left to do is remember which S3A goes which side... Surprised

Suckage. The snow can do nasty things - keeping an eye on my shack around here.

Commiserations, Dietrich, here's to no more of that.

We don't usually think of snow as a hazard to buildings in the UK, but I saw the guys who are building my new room (should be finished next week) were serious when one of the earlier design calculations was for snow load.

Sorry to hear... that has to be a major pain.

But what a good opportunity to rewire. Say, can I interest you in some audiophile grade cabelling?

over the past week i have shoveled literally tons of snow off my roof. i kind of like the dull repetition of the job, and i have a nice view of the city up there, but man oh man is that hard work.

I am beginning to think I am living in my refrigerator's freezer. It snows almost everyday and today is the first day in a long time it will be almost at the freezing mark. I can't wait for spring... but it is still about two months off.

I had a problem with a flat roof (since changed) where every time we would get more than about 4 inches of snow it would leak and this was in my machine room - not fun.
