Busby Electronics - new modular tube desk
« on: December 18, 2010, 03:04:14 AM »

Ran into the person behind this new modular tube desk today at the local java hut & had a good long chat
- some very interesting ideas and creative plans for this desk platform as well as future product lines.

JAN tubes, Cinemag xformers, Wima caps, room for customer requested alterations and high flexibility - classic design & modern thinking
- I think these desks are going to be a sweet deal for the price point.. ($3595)

Desks can be expanded to 12,16 and beyond...

Gear made by musicians for musicians...with the prevailing concept being appreciation of music & quality sound - what's there not to love?

I will try to get the man behind Busby on here in the New Year if anyone has any questions..

Good sense is, of all things among men, the most equally distributed; for everyone thinks himself so abundantly provided with it, that those even who are the most difficult to satisfy in everything else, do not usually desire a larger measure of this quality than they already possess.

Hmm.

Either he's in the Netherlands, or you're back in BC/Salt Spring Island?!?

Been following his project for awhile: still a ways off before hitting production, but - his design and ethos is very interesting/commendable, and this should be a wonderful sounding unit: the audio examples provided (months back) show the unit to sound very appealing, and with 500 series format compatible, should enter a viable and growing market.

IMO, if there was a bit more offered in the master section, and some more 'basic' console features offered, this thing might 'fly' off the shelves. As it stands, it's a very unique product, but IMO, VERY limited for any professional usage...

Still - I WANT ONE - pref. 16 channels.

Are you listening, Santa?!?

Yup back in BC,

Gonna be hanging my hat up here on the coast for a while..

Quite a bit nicer going out the door and running into people like 'Mr Busby' as opposed to where I was before...

Apparently there may be drop in modules on the way to expand console features like inductive eq, compression etc.

Looks sweet.  Reminds me a bit of an Inward Connections console I once had the great pleasure to use, although it didn't have any summing.  Looked like this, although a different collection of modules:

As far as I know the roots of the project go back to an original 610 console which
Donn from Busby Electronics acquired in non-working condition in the 80's and traded, much to his later regret.

Those Inward Connections desks do look nice - I always wondered how they sounded..

I think it's the best, most euphonic sounding piece of audio gear I've ever run a signal through.

Hi Ryan,
Sorry, didn't realize there was a discussion started here as well.

Feel free to give me a call and I can run you through the paces on a channel here on SSI. Currently milling the chassis parts, pc boards etc for producing the first 4 mixers. At the same time, I am demoing channel for some studios here on SSI and in Victoria in the next couple of weeks.

I can probably log on once a week to answer any queries via this forum.

Cheers!

The Inward Connections console is amazing.  Steve and his design partner are geniuses with great ears.
