I've got one and it sounds incredible. I've A/B'd the internal converters to Meitners and the Korg holds up beautifully.

As Terry said, best mix down format available. And now we see they're developing an 8 channel version with editing!  5.1 DSD mix format just down the road? Those will be some big files!

Indeed!

A normal medium-lenght song mixed to stereo dff can easily be 1G as it is.

I have clients upload DSD mixes several times/month now - most seem to  average around 300MB or so, not bad.

Well, hopefully, I'll get my #1 A+ mastering-man Peter Beckmann to buy one before they're unavailable in the UK completely! Smile

....If I can still find one!!

Are those Korg 5.6mHz files, or something that's 2.8mHz?

Just looked at the last project, all mixes weighed in between 300 and 400 MB running at 5.6MHz.

So that's 300 to 400MB per song?

Ordered one today.  Looking forward to hearing it.  Just the idea that I can burn SACD discs and play them on my stereo, with my SACD player, is enough-- hope it's true.
I'm always depressed when i hear the difference coming off the console or the 1/2" and the mixed file.  Automatically lose 20% of the depth.  Maybe this will narrow the margin.
Thanks, guys, for opening my eyes to this possibility- i didn't know it existed.  Must get out more...

You won't be able to create SACDs on the computer - there's no such thing as an SACD-R.  Sony had more in mind than just creating a better sound quality medium, they also built copy protection into the format.

What really caught my attention from this: "We saw and heard seamlessly integrated eq and effects pop-ups working perfectly…"

If Korg has solved ITB DSP with DSD without spoiling the sound quality that would really be something. I just wonder if it will (or eventually will) include dynamics and modulation fx. Nevertheless, it could represent a major breakthrough.

Unfortunately, the closest we can come is DVD-A. The problem I have with that is the files get converted to PCM files. Although I haven't looked into it, excepting a mobile DVD-A player, like a deck in a car, it's not something I see a lot of value in. However, if you're interested to pursue it further, Minnetonka DiscWelder can author and burn DVD-A discs.

Or perhaps that it was time to get a new and current patent up and running in order to earn a lot of licensing money, when the old one was gone...

When you guys mix to the Korg, i assume you don't need to clock it to anything since your input is analog via the xlr.  Any reason to slave it to the word clock from your converters?
thanks,
