Schoeps M201 schematic
« on: July 05, 2010, 02:37:06 PM »

I have a Schoeps M201 with the dual capsule assembly that is noisy. Do you have a mic and power supply schematic for this
unit? I found some old posts from 2004 in your archive, but
the links no longer work.
Thanks,

Not all of Schoeps' microphones and power supplies from the 1950s conform to their published schematics. You can contact Schoeps on mailbox@schoeps.de -- they understand English quite well over there. But I would advise anyone to let Schoeps repair any Schoeps microphones, particularly if there might be a problem with the capsules. I've just seen too many supposed experts guess and guess wrong as to how they work and how they should be handled.

--best regards

Edited to add Telefunken schematic, though my opinion still stands, plus I believe there were variant versions of this circuit (and I know for sure that there were several for the M 221 series).

Thanks David,
I still have the noise without the capsule attached. I've repaired a broken lead in the inline output transformer can,
but I believe I have a partial short in the mic preamp. The
old cloth wire is starting to fall apart and I plan to rewire the
section from the tube socket to the mic connector. If no one has prints I'll just draw it out myself. Just curious about the PSU
voltages.

The plate supply is supposed to be at +150 VDC and the filament supply is at -6.3 VDC

Hey David,
Thanks a lot. This mic is a Telefunken version, with a Telefunken
power supply, both schematics match the unit I'm working on now.
Someone had worked on the transformer box before and left out all the mounting screws and taped it back together, so the can was no longer grounded, adding extra hum. Fixed that. I understand your aprehension about service on this mic, I've been
doing pro audio and mic repairs over 35 years, and this baby
scares me a bit too, due to the extremely small package.
I understand the purpose of the remote output transformer was
to keep the mic body as small as possible for TV work.
Again, thanks for the info and all your help.
