Ok.  So here it is, destined to be viral internet classis:  FIND YOUR GROOVE

It's REALLY BAD.  You've been warned.

If you can stomach it, you have to listen to the end...because she gets a little sexy and saucy.

She is very obviously an unusual talent.

Whew. If was home I'd feel a need to go run the chainsaw for a while.

i must say it's not too far off from some of the stuff  coming out on labels like Asmatic Kitty these days.

I mastered a 12"/EP for a band called Washed Out. It's sorta like this only really good. There's a bunch of bands around now who kinda have that vibe. Another really good one is Javelin.

a few years ago a studio referred a client to me to record a solo piano project.  the "tunes" were written, the artist told me, to go along with some artwork he'd painted.  then he sat down and started playing.  each piece consisted of a single note... played loud, played soft, played fast, played slow... for several minutes.  we cut an entire cd that day....

Wow.

Sounds almost like the bloody awful soundtrack to "Eyes Wide Shut".

Still...gotta pay the bills somehow.

***I especially like the Syndrum solos.  This is near outsider music.  I had a metal band book a project:

Me- "What's the name of the band?"

Him- "We're called "Insipid"..."

I had to put him on hold for a minute.  Would it kill you to use a dictionary when naming your band?

Had a fellow call today and insist that he wanted to book an 8 hour block to mix (and master) 50 !! songs that he had been working on for 40 years... He became irate when I suggested that it would likely take weeks, and we would be unlikely to even be able to transfer the songs in one day.

I was relieved when he hung up on me

wow- thank you.
i'm in the middle of a looong session trying to figure out what's going to make this commercial client happy and take a break to peruse the forum.
Find Your Groove nearly causes me to wet myself I'm laughing so hard.

thanks for the much needed stress-buster.

totally hilarious.

There is so much more to the story of Find Your Groove.

Like the fact that she called me several times, weeks in advance trying to set up this deal.  But then her mom got sick....so she had to take some time to help her out.  And she was really torn, because as she explained it, "every day that my music isn't out there, is one less day I have to create a buzz."  I thought for sure she'd come in and kill it.

Like the fact that she had 10 songs total that she needed to drop vocals on.  My twisted alter ego really wanted to hear them all, but I never heard back from her after the first song.  I guess I wasn't good enough for her.

Like the fact that when she showed up, her hair was all teased out.  She was wearing a hot pink shirt pulled through one of those plastic rings at the hip, turquoise pants, and some odd colored pumps.  Bright red lipstick.  It was 2007-ish in my world.  Not sure about hers.

Like the fact that she handed me a cassette tape of Madonna's - CHERISH and told me THAT'S the sound she was trying to emulate.  I was like....not even sure I had something to play it on.

And the cherry on top.

The boyfriend (maybe husband, I can't recall) who came along and sat behind me for the session.  Dirty ass baseball cap, missing teeth, classic hillbilly laugh.  She kept asking HIM what HE thought while she was "performing".  His only response (wisely, I'm sure) was something along the lines of, "I dunno hunny.  You're the one who's all artsy and stuff...."

Sounds like she was rockin' the Peg Bundy look circa 1987.
