June is Stop Smoking Whatever Works Month

Tomorrow, June 1, 2009, at least one member of PSW must stop smoking, forever.

You decide who.

Hmmm, I think I should volunteer. The only other smoker in the studio  happens to be quitting Monday and I told him I should as well, it will be easier for both of us.

It's kind of bizarre that this post comes today...

I quit 15.5 years ago.  I'll quit again, if you'd like!

Oh Man.. I've been really feeling it too. It's been an insane couple of years, and I Smoked more than normal last winter.. Now, I've cut down considerably. But quit? Why dose it feel like it's going to be so damn hard? This is the only bad vice I have left.. I gave all the dope up some time ago, and rarely drink.

What the hell am I afraid of?

It's a very effective way of dealing with all the 'things' that life throws at you.

You can do it, though.  I did it a couple years ago after 18 years of pack-a-daily smoking.  If you start again, stop again.  Eventually it will stick.

Being a non-smoker has a huge list of advantages that you deserve to enjoy.

Sounds like a plan.  I've already stocked up on patches and been cutting down over the last couple weeks.  One of the last vices left... Damn, it's going to be a bitch.

I had this friend named  Sonja . She was a  truly magical soul , innovative hair stylist   (  seen George Clinton since 90 or so ? ) who ran a well recognized salon  http://www.hairpolice.com/ and basically invented something called a "dread-perm"  . Everyone loved her . She was way ahead of her time in many cyber ways . I've written  a number children's stories/poems  for Nickelodeon Magazine  . One , called "Hairshow" which reads like fiction ,  was really about Sonja and her haircut/stylist pals .

She left this universe too soon  (although she  might disagree and say it was " right on time ") , just a couple of weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer . The last thing that she ever gave to me ( and without knowing ) was the ability to stop smoking . Completely . I've never looked back .  It's tough to imagine wanting to start up  again .

Okay, I quit.

Serious.

My voice sounds like shit. Maybe it'll come back.

10 years ago tomorrow was a watershed day for me, it should help as an anniversary of sorts.

Think good thoughts.

BTW, I started smoking when I was 12 because i thought David Bowie looked so damned cool with a cigarette.

Rumor has it he's got lung cancer.

I would be so thrilled if someone, or better, several of our friends here, stopped smoking because of this thread!
