I couldn't be more irritated that my iPhone doesn't support flash!

I mentioned this once.  Steve Jobs is not playing nice with Adobe, or vice versa, but something must have happened, since he will not let flash play.  Adobe often updates Windoze machines first, and I think he gets tired of being the afterthought, right or wrong.  Apple is probably making their own software, since they are also making their own iphone chips.

Apple won't have Flash in the foreseeable future on the iPhone for two reasons.

1.  Why buy a game sold at the AppStore written in Cocoa, when you can play one on the web coded in Flash?  Gaming is  a huge market for iPhone/iTouch.

2.  There is no competing device (worthy of the name "competing") that runs Flash, and until then Apple has no reason to do so.  The only thing that will pressure Apple to have Flash on the iPhone is a competing device that runs Flash well, or if Apple buys Adobe (don't hold your breath).

I heard that firmware update 2.1 fixed the problem with battery life, and a lot of it had to to with application/cpu efficiency.

Running flash would also consume more battery power.....pick your poison I guess.
