Good at some things...horrible at others.
« on: May 17, 2004, 09:34:27 PM »

We have all seen this in others or realised this weakness in ourselves.

Example.

I run a good size shop but am a complete moron in terms of certain day to day tasks. Eventually I hire someone to do well the things I cannot begin to handle adroitly.

Example.

A guitar player is overdubbing a solo he/she has written but cannot possibly play with feel or basic execution. They just keep you running the tape back and forth while they pray for divine intervention...intervention that in it's final appearence is nothing more than a digital editing device.

Example.

A guy gets a forum to moderate but for all of his considerable knowledge, in a field where he is widely viewed as an expert, has NFC as to how to handle the reailty of the task at hand. But being a touch too egotistical he fails to admit his folly and adapt accordingly. The end result is of no value to he or his ever dwindling readership.

As supremely stupid as I am I do make an effort not to miss the obvious. I wonder how many of us routinely fail in our audio tasks because we refuse to understand the difference between our egos and our true understanding of the work at hand. I have had this happen at least 57 times in my career...what about you????

This isn't an uncommon situation really.

We all have areas of expertise at which we excel, but even in those areas some tasks completely elude our understanding or ability to cope and comprehend.

It's only natural when one is faced with his own shortcomings to withdraw behind the chimera of authority and bluntly say 'Because I said so!'.

It happens to parents all the time as many of us know, but it shouldn't occur between adults.

If I went to say, a seminar on the nature of the electrical contracting business, I'd probably feel cheated if a participant was stifled for wanting to discuss the paradigm of using palm pilots in the field to log parts, employee hours and customer requests when it was obviously a new and different way of doing business, just because the organizers of the seminar said it wasn't on the agenda.

This is not forward thinking.

I want to see and hear all the discussion anybody brings to the table. This how we move forward. This is how we will eliminate our dependency on fossil fuels and this is how we become better engineers of sound and life in general.

Having said that, I'm thinking of designing a new microphone and calling it the BB57. I'm gonna start with a toilet paper roll and some cellophane...

Just got me thinking... why is the number 57 so prevalent?

SM57
Heinz 57 Sauce
Gibson Les Paul '57
Maria Callas: Hamburg Concert 1957

Screw 42! damned be 23! 57 is the number where it's at!

its the primes thing.

the first two primes form an unlucky number, so we go to the 2nd and 3rd

Often enough, but not half as often as the bands that make ten steps in the right direction and let their new found greatness take 25 steps back on the next level. There isn't a game genie in life, do overs aren't in the cards so live and die by your work.

Hey, they asked me to moderate a forum here.  I didn't volunteer.

Aardy--I think I know who you have in mind, and if so, I agree, but since I don't spend a lot of time here, maybe you can drop me a hint--or a PM.

This is why we form societies - to cover each other's asses.  Or maybe the formation of society is how specialists ended up surviving long enough to find a niche.

It happens to me all the time. Part of my problem is that Im void of logic and linear and can't seem to figure out why its seems so easy for everyone else.
If your a supremely stupid individual then I will once again have to relagate myself to the boundry layer between the bottom of the pond and what the pond contains. Just when I thought I've hit a new low someone moves the bar down.

I have an artificial ego and I only use it in self defense. An ego is something we all have but don't want others to have one that competes with it. When we do clash with ego's logic goes out the window whether we admit it or not because ego's are an emotional construct in which we filter all incoming emotions from others. This ego filter is why we often fail to not only understand something but also prevents us from doing the right thing even though we recognize that the right thing needs to be done. Its our egos that establish the pecking order in society.

By responding to this thread I automatically put my ego on the line in the hopes of validating myself and moving up a rung on the pecking order. If I fail to impress with my input to this thread I not only move down in the pecking order in my own mind I move down in the minds of the R/E/P community yet once again.

IM pretty good at wasting bandwidth, that about it though.

Peace,
Dennis

That is a pretty lame veiled attack at Klaus Heyne. And your signature line is equally as tacky.

When you shitbrigade guys get on a kick about something, you just won't let up! Lighten up.

Why do people think they a moderator should change the way they do things, just because THEY don't like it? When you come into someone's house you play by their rules.

I certainly hope it's not George. The "widely respected  knowledgable" reference eliminated me but the questions remain:

Is whining useable content? "Is it justice? Is it proper?" Are there any real men left? Have you got as much out of his forum as I have? Do German's have a sensibility that confuses Canadians?

Most importantly... When is the prime time to inshore fish Tampa?

I never made any negative comments about the way E Shaun ran his forum, at his forum... As I think you know.

There was a flame war about the Cape stuff, but I hardly want to get that going again.

All year baby.

Different species have different peak seasons around here... There's a snook season, a redfish season... pretty much everything else is wide open.

Spring to fall is when the fish are in their migratory phase.

The best bet is to hit the mangroves... wading in is probably the best- better than boating, as far as ease of catching goes.

I just went deep sea fishing for some grouper the other day. I came away pretty well stocked.

I meant to add that spring to fall is theoretically the best time, but it is good all year.
