Neumann U47 tube socket question
« on: October 16, 2007, 01:25:35 PM »

Did Neumann ever use a clear plastic disk for the VF14 socket on an early long body U47?  I've only seen the black phenolic sockets on other U47's.

Never seen one, not even on the first (large badge) series of U47. Neumann always used the "Preh" - made octagonal socket
Can you supply a close-up JPG?

No need, I'm sure it's non-original.  I'm thinking this mic was modified for use with a nuvistor, then reversed.  What other parts would be suspect? ie which other parts should I check for originality?

You might want to talk to Andreas Grosser he uses them because of the higher insulation resistance....
