Mixing using MATLAB
« on: May 30, 2007, 02:12:59 PM »

Am i really crazy, or somebody else have tried this? could be really cool to hear current filter under design in mix/soloed song.
Is there any VST to Matlab pass? or i should make such from scratch? It could be great to avoid recoding filters in C++ each time. I dont care about latency much 200ms to 1 sec could be ok while mixing. You can simply freez results etc.

wrong forum I think...

Maybe try Bruno's?

Also, it sounds like a cool idea.  You'd need to write a VST plugin that connects with a running Matlab instance somehow.

I think it could be even more straightforward because in matlab Simulink can take Audio In and Out from Audio Card, so i need to get some ready Virtual Audio Card Patchbay driver in the system. But unfortunately in Nuendo there is no way for multiple ASIO drivers? Does it? Is there something for PC like in MacOS when you can group several audio interfaces in multi-output audio unit (forget the term, somebody from MAC could help on this?)? It need support ASIO.

in all seriousness - why would you waste any time doing this?

because i want to learn how different aspects of filters sound, i want so see phase response, i want to redesign filter and want to see immediate result in mix and in layering.

Why would anyone waste their time building DIY mic preamps?

Building your own filters and plugins requires some amount of mathematic design compromises and using Matlab could allow realtime changes.

If this idea actually holds water, that is.  And, since I know nothing about such design, there may be easier ways to do this.

However, I still this thread belongs in a technical forum.

If you're OK with the latency, my dummies' question would be "what's wrong with looping back with a piece of wire?"

you can use reaktor for this reason.

Hi,

It is a valid idea, and i thinking about it. I just need another Pro soundcard. I'm doing something like this with SPDIF hardwired in nuendo, in order to "record from sends"

Hi,

What particularly can be done? Using more ASIO drivers simultaneously?

no..

you can simulate all filters and stuff..

in principal its for building new synths.. but.. you know.. just expand that a bit.

read into it.

demo available.
